The Enduring Spirit of Hope: Illuminating Lives Through Compassion and Action
ZACHS RAYS OF HOPE FOUNDATION
The beginning of Our service to the Homeless
Zach’s rays of hope began after the loss of our son Zach at the age of 33 on Dec 16, 2021. Zach loved animals and nature and we often looked to the sky at the beauty of God’s creation. We loved to catch beautiful sunsets and one sunset in particular we snapped a photo of because the sunrays were breaking through the dark clouds like God’s light breaks through our darkest days. We needed a name for the farm for our registered dexter paperwork and we decided to name the farm rays of hope. Zach was someone who was a listening ear to anyone that needed encouragement and a fun guy to be around the animals playing with them. He had empathy on every creature and enjoyed time with the animals. His last act of kindness was to take a blanket to a young man that was staying in a shed with no insulation or electric, 18 days later Zach passed away at that mans hands. The hospital did not let our son know that he had sepsis. They made a judgement about our son and discharged him to his girlfriends care. They only told him to drink plenty of water. They did not bother to tell him that he was in acute kidney failure. The next morning he was very ill and so began our journey of watching our son pass away. His last words to us was that he was sorry that he was passing away, but that he was ready and we said a prayer with a pastor we did not know that just happened to come by on his day off. We felt so alone and uncared for and felt that no value was placed on the live of our son. Our older son that worked with feeding the homeless was telling us about a man that froze outside when a religious organization did not allow him to take shelter due to his lifestyle, so we decided that our purpose was to help everyone that we could without judgement. We believe that the homeless deserve to be treated with compassion and kindness, without judgement, so that they have a ray of hope. Our foundation in Zach’s memory is therefore Zach’s rays of hope. We give hope for the hopeless one backpack at a time.
